St. Louis fan favorite David Freese hit a lead-off double into the right field corner in the fifth inning and scored on Josh Harrison's single to left to put the Pirates on the board.
Harrison stole second base rather easily on fill-in Cardinals catcher Brayan Pena, took third on Jordy Mercer's groundout and scored on Eric Fryer's single through the pulled-in infield to tie the game.
Fryer moved up on a wild pitch, then took third base when pitch-hitter Matt Joyce grounded to Matt Carpenter on second base and, upon further review, reached first on his high throw.
