Former big-league pitcher Colyer passes lessons to players he coaches in Wentzville

The intense ambition of trying to reach and then remain at a higher level of baseball is not so distant that Steve Colyer doesn’t remember how it felt 15 years after throwing his last major-league pitch.

For a left-hander who topped out at 100 mph, the point no longer is what he experienced but how he can translate those lessons for the young players, including two sons, he coaches in Wentzville.

Colyer, who played at Fort Zumwalt South High, returned to his hometown after getting opportunities with the Dodgers, Tigers and Braves and pitching in 61 games in relief.
