ST. LOUIS -- When speaking to reporters Tuesday, general manager Michael Girsch hinted at the Cardinals' preferred candidate to start Saturday against the Pirates. Though he did not specifically reveal who the club has in mind, the Cards are lining up Jack Flaherty for that game.
"He's certainly one of the main candidates," Girsch said. "We have a pretty good idea of who it's going to be."
Flaherty, the club's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was scheduled to pitch Wednesday at Triple-A Memphis, but now he won't, as making that start would've precluded him from starting Saturday.
