Federal judge dismisses lawsuit against Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: 'This was plain old bar fight'

Andrew D'Angelo of St. Louis sued Martinez in January 2018, alleging Martinez committed assault, battery, civil conspiracy and in-concert liability on a parking lot outside the Penthouse Club in Sauget on July 4, 2014.

In his lawsuit, D'Angelo said Martinez, his associate Angel Perez, then-Florida Marlins left fielder Marcell Ozuna, and the late Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras assaulted him and his friend, Jake Ehlinger.

Sauget police said D'Angelo stopped cooperating, so no criminal charges were ever filed against the players.

Taveras was killed in a car crash a few months after the fight. Ozuna, who now plays for the Cardinals, reached a confidential settlement with D'Angelo.
