As heavy rain began falling again in the eighth inning Wednesday night at Busch Stadium, the umpires eemed intent on ending the inning before having the tarpaulin pulled on. But, seconds before they did, the Cardinals’ Aledmys Diaz lined a two-out, two-run homer just fair to left field to cut the Milwaukee Brewers’ lead to 7-6.
Diaz’s seventh homer of the season came off righthander Jacob Barnes after Jedd Gyorko had walked with one out. Diaz no sooner had touched the plate than the grounds crew raced onto the field.
