DeJong hits 30th homer but Cards trail 8-6 after eight

BADER, EDMAN SPARK RALLY

In the third inning, the Cardinals missed a possible double play on a ball hit by lefthanded-batting Schwarber. With a man at first and nobody out, Schwarber grounded to shortstop Paul DeJong, who prepared to throw to second to Tommy Edman. Second baseman Edman was shifted well to his left for Schwarber and took off for second but pulled up short when he apparently thought he couldn’t get there ahead of base runner Nico Hoerner.
