Curse is broken: Cubs beat Indians for first Series title in 108 years

CLEVELAND • The weight has been lifted from the City of Big Shoulders.

More than a century of wishing, wailing, waiting, and worrying, especially Wednesday, ended emphatically as the Chicago Cubs unburdened generations and, for the first time since 1908, carried the World Series championship trophy. With a 10th-inning rally keyed by Ben Zobrist, the Cubs outlasted Cleveland in one of the most epic Game 7s ever for an 8-7 victory and the title at Progressive Field.

The Cubs were four outs away from the trophy when Cleveland outfielder Rajai Davis’ two-run homer off closer Aroldis Chapman cleared the left-field wall to tie the game, 6-6.
