JUPITER, Fla. • _Brett Cecil, pitching for another major league team for the first time, allowed back-to-back singles to Miami’s Martin Prado and Christian Yelich in the fourth inning, his first as a Cardinal on Sunday.
But the former Toronto reliever then emerged scoreless through the heart of the Miami order, striking out Giancarlo Stanton, retiring Justin Bour on a fly to center and getting Marcell Ozuna to look at strike three.
The Cardinals maintained a 4-0 lead over Miami in exhibition baseball.
CATCH THEM IF YOU CAN
Mike Mayers retired more men over two innings Sunday in his first exhibition start of the spring for the Cardinals than he set down in his forgettable big-league debut last July.
