JUPITER, Fla. • Matt Carpenter, hitless in his last 12 at-bats and one for 14 for the spring, doubled to open the Cardinals’ sixth and scored the tying run on Matt Holliday’s sacrifice fly as the Cardinals evened their exhibition game with the Minnesota Twins at 2-2.
Pinch runner Jacob Wilson moved up on Stephen Piscotty’s hit before Holliday’s fly to center. Pinch runner Jeremy Hazelbacker alertly took second on the play and then stole third before Randal Grichuk walked. But Jedd Gyorko, one for his last 14, bounced into a double play.
MANESS CUFFED FOR TWO RUNS, FOUR HITS
Cardinals righthander Seth Maness, who hadn’t pitched for a week because of arm soreness, was tagged for two runs and four hits in the fifth inning Monday as the Minnesota Twins broke a scoreless tie.
