Cards turn another lead into a loss vs. Cubs

CHICAGO • Whether it’s the groundballs that got through, the jersey that fluttered just enough, or the fastball that didn’t, all the clues used to figure out whodunit this time for the Cardinals lead back to one culprit.

Past performance is definitely an indicator of present decisions.

With three lefthanded relievers in the bullpen, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny elected to not use any of them against Cubs scuffling slugger Kyle Schwarber with the bases loaded in the decisive moment of Saturday’s 5-3 loss at Wrigley Field. Kevin Siegrist, warmed and ready, has had better success against righthanded batters.
