Cards' streak ends as Brewers wins series finale

Milwaukee’s victory kept the Cardinals from sweeping their final regular-season series at Miller and opening a 7 ½-game lead on the third-place Brewers. The Cardinals’ winning streak ended at six, as did their stretch of games with at least six runs scored. When the Cardinals’ started their span of 16 games in 16 days, they were two games back in the National League Central. They ended that portion of the calendar by going 12-4 and overtaking the Cubs to hold at least a two-game advantage in the division. Throughout that stretch the Cardinals asserted what they illustrated in a loss Wednesday – while the Brewers were scrambling to get back into the race, the Cardinals were never out of the game, until the end.
