PITTSBURGH • The Cardinals braced themselves Thursday for the absence of closer Trevor Rosenthal due to an elbow injury that could force an extended stretch on the disabled list.
Rosenthal returned to St. Louis on Thursday morning for a battery of exams to determine the severity of an injury in his right elbow, and the cause of what the team described as “posterior elbow irritation.
