The Cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the second as first baseman Matt Adams deposited a 1-1 pitch from Doug Fister over the wall in straight-away center. The blast, estimated at 418 feet, was the ninth homer of the season for Adams, who entered the game hitting .322.
Houston tied in the third. After back-to-back hits from Carlos Gomez and Marwin Gonzalez and a sacrifice bunt from Astros pitcher Doug Fister, George Springer hit a grounder up the middle. Starting in place of Aledmys Diaz at short, Greg Garcia came up with a nice diving stop and throw to first to retire Springer as Gomez trotted home with the tying run.
