When Matt Morris was a Cardinals pitcher in 2000 and Heather Reader was a sports writer in Chicago, they discovered in the course of a casual conversation at Wrigley Field (where Morris was not a fan favorite) that they had a mutual love of skiing. Morris was a native New Yorker, who had a season ski pass for the hill near his home, and Reader a Wisconsin native.
Reader told Morris that she had gone to college at Regis in Denver, which reminded Morris to tell her that he was planning to go on a ski trip after the season.
