Prior to Wednesday's game in Cincinnati, the Cardinals purchased the contract of first baseman/outfielder Chad Huffman from Triple-A Memphis and optioned right-hander John Gant to Memphis.
Huffman, 32, will be making his first Major League appearance since his 2010 debut with the Yankees. He spent nine games in pinstripes, batting .167 in 21 plate appearances with two RBIs and two walks, and playing left field, right field and first base. He bounced around several organizations' farm systems and spent two years playing in Japan before signing with the Cardinals as a free agent last November.
