ST. LOUIS • Several decades ago, sometime in the 1980s, a young Cardinals fan, just a teen, rushed up to help Keith Hernandez cross the street. Hernandez, a former Cardinal, had a few bags and was apparently moving them from the hotel to the ballpark, and the young fan, just a kid from Illinois, offered to carry one.
“I doubt he remembers,” said the kid.
That kid grew up to be a general manager.
Well, he plays one on TV.
