Cardinals' Nootbaar gets first hit, first assist and probably more playing time

DETROIT—As the Cardinals lost the second game in which outfielder Lars Nootbaar had played, his parents, who had celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in Tahiti before their son got the call to the majors, didn’t see Lars' first big-league hit, a third-inning triple, on Wednesday. Charlie and Kumi Nootbaar were laid over at the Atlanta airport.

But should they get to St. Louis this weekend, which seems likely, they are apt to see Lars get some more action, manager Mike Shildt suggested Wednesday.

With Busch Stadium ready for full capacity, the fans who turn out for the Pittsburgh series at least will have something different to look at than what they have been watching on television and at Busch lately.
