The Cubs threatened in the top of the first despite not getting a ball out of the infield. After Dexter Fowler drew a walk, Jason Heyward lined the ball up the middle. Shortstop Ruben Tejada, playing in his first game as a Cardinal, was unable to make the catch on what could have been a double play but recovered to get the force at second.
