Cardinals' dandy defensive plays steal outs, keep Wainwright tidy vs. Tigers

A series of excellent defensive plays helped Cardinals starter Wainwright minimize trouble and slip through his three innings of work against the Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium on Monday afternoon. Martinez had a diving catch in left field to end the third inning with a runner at second base. Moments earlier Miguel Cabrera slashed a liner toward right field that prospect Carlson ran down, in stride, to keep a run from scoring against Wainwright.

Wainwright spent most of his time with pitches between 84 mph and 88 mph, though he was able to manipulate the break and movement on them to both sides of the plate.
