Cardinals' bats silenced to end 9-game trip

CHICAGO -- After the offense pounded out 14 runs in a win over the White Sox on Tuesday, the Cardinals were silent on Wednesday. They mustered only four hits, including just three against Chicago starter Carlos Rodon, in a 4-0 loss at Guaranteed Rate Field.

St. Louis had only one runner in scoring position over the first seven innings, when Matt Carpenter lined a sixth-inning, one-out double past a diving Charlie Tilson in right-center field. Jose Martinez and Paul DeJong contributed the other two hits against Rodon, both singles.
