Bernie: Cards have good formula for scoring

When Seattle made a trade Wednesday to acquire slugger Mark Trumbo from Arizona, a couple of thoughts immediately came to mind:

1. The Cardinals could have used Trumbo. He's a pretty good first baseman, and it isn't easy to find righthanded-hitting power.

2. Seattle, which is lagging offensively, landed some positive help.

Both initial thoughts were wrong.

First of all, even if the Cardinals coveted Trumbo they weren't a good trade match with Arizona. After losing Tuffy Gosewich to a season-ending knee injury, the Diamondbacks were eager to land a starting-caliber catcher.
