Second baseman Kolten Wong is nearing a return from his elbow injury, and veteran infielder Jhonny Peralta has not proven he deserves a place in St. Louis.
Perhaps that summary sounds too harsh. But a team that is trying to save its season should prioritize results over feelings.
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak ripped the Band-Aid off with respected yet under-performing reliever Jonathan Broxton, and he will need to do it with Peralta as soon as Wong is ready to go.
