BenFred: Shortened 2020 MLB season proved St. Louis region's long run of producing talent will continue

As homegrown baseball superstar Max Scherzer, the should-have-been Cardinal who got away, continues to growl and snarl his way toward Cooperstown during his career of pitching dominance, a fair question about the future started to stir.

Was another wave of MLB talent produced by the STL area on its way?

Scherzer (Parkway Central) is 36 now. World Series hero David Freese (Lafayette High) has retired. Same for slugger Ryan Howard (Lafayette) and starter Mark Buehrle (Francis Howell North).

Our region’s long, proud history of churning out MLB talent seemed to be flickering a little bit.

Not anymore.
