The phrase can be traced back to the card table during spring training, where baseball Swiss Army knife Yairo Munoz introduced his new teammates to Big Three, his favorite card game. Munoz hollered the words with each victory, playfully taunting those who were both surprised and amused by the rookie’s brashness. This new guy had swagger.
Munoz, now nearing a return from the disabled list, found a foothold in the majors. So has his card game, and his phrase. As the game spread from Roger Dean Stadium to Busch and the team airplanes and hotels in between, the phrase found its way into a pregame handshake here, a walk-off celebration there.
