BenFred: Carlson's summer camp introduction to Busch will help whenever he arrives for good

Now batting. Outfielder. Dylan Carlson.

Those words sure had a nice ring to them as Cardinals top prospect Dylan Carlson stepped into the box against Tyler Webb during Saturday night's intrasquad game at Busch Stadium.

A welcome gift arrived. Edmundo Sosa, a usually sure-handed defender, could not pick Carlson's grounder. Carlson was awarded a single, for a moment. A press-box review then determined the hit had been an error.

The outfielder of the future did not protest.

Signs of his present were, well, present.

Carlson was batting eighth. He was one of the few players out there who didn't have a number on his back.
