The addition of veteran lefthanded starters Jon Lester from Washington and J.A. Happ from Minnesota on Friday allowed the Cardinals to plug two new arms into an ever-changing rotation — they will be the 11th and 12 starters for the Cardinals when they appear, probably next week.
But it also will allow young righthander Johan Oviedo, who has made 13 starts for the Cardinals this season and 18 over the past two, without winning any of them, to spend more time at Class AAA Memphis, where he is now, rather than hopscotching between here and there.
Oviedo has been optioned six times this season.
