St. John's vs. South Carolina final: 75-61; Johnnies show fight but fall short against the Gamecocks

It was a much more promising performance than this past weekend's debacle against Incarnate Word and NJIT, but St. John's was still defeated by an aggressive 25th ranked South Carolina team (11-0), 75 to 61, at Mohegan Sun on Tuesday night.

Durand Johnson, who showed his streaky shooting abilities, was the team's leading scorer as he put up 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting while grabbing six boards. Federico Mussini, 12 points and five turnovers, had a difficult time dealing with the length of Gamecocks point guard P.J. Dozier while Yankuba Sima scored seven points and Christian Jones added a solid 10 points and three boards.
