St. John's Lacrosse started the season on Friday before the snow hit... but the attempt to start the season on a high note and wipe the taste of a poor spring last year was not successful, as the Red Storm fell to Rutgers 19-11. Rutgers held possession and won 10 more faceoffs.
St. John's switched goalies in the first half, benching junior Joseph Danaher for redshirt freshman Michael O'Keeffe, who staunched some of the bleeding. He allowed nine goals in 40 minutes, compared to 10 goals in 18 minutes for Danaher.
St. John's attackman Eric DeJohn was named to the Big East honor roll this week.
