TomTom Moves Away From Sports Wearables, Cuts Jobs

Over the past year, it has been difficult for some companies to find success in wearable devices. TomTom now appears to be leaving that market, announcing last week that it was cutting 136 positions as a result of reorganizing its consumer sports business.

TomTom reconfirmed its strategy of focusing on navigation and GPS technologies instead.

TomTom had previously made known it would begin backing away from sports wearables in July, after a decline consumer revenue.

“The wearables market has fallen short of expectations,” TomTom CEO Harold Goddijn said in July. “Because of this and because we want to focus on Autonomous licensing and Telematic business we are reviewing strategic options for our sports business.
