U.S. Women’s National Team smothers Costa Rica 4-0 in Olympic send-off match in KCK

Besides a temperature reading of 90-plus degrees, the U.S. Women’s National Team got just what it wanted out of Kansas City on Friday night.

Playing in its final match before heading to Brazil for the Olympics, the national team easily took down Costa Rica 4-0 in front of 12,635 at Children’s Mercy Park. It was a game essentially over by halftime.

Head coach Jill Ellis said Thursday she wanted to see several players hit the back of the net, and her team got rolling early on that request.

Meghan Klingenberg beat everyone down the left flank in the 15th minute and slipped the ball to a sprinting Crystal Dunn in the box.
