Sporting Kansas City learned on Thursday morning that they will hit the road for the fourth round of the 2016 US Open Cup. On June 15th, they will either play at Minnesota United FC or St. Louis FC.
Both opponents are recent opponents. Sporting KC defeated Minnesota United FC in 2014 and then defeated St. Louis FC in 2015, both matches at Sporting Park.
Sporting KC did not have to go on the road for the 2015 US Open Cup until the final, so starting off on the road will be a change of experience. They haven't played at a non-MLS team's stadium in the US Open Cup since 2009, when they defeated the now-defunct Minnesota Thunder.
