Sporting KC’s Roger Espinoza has red card rescinded by review panel

An independent review panel has rescinded the red card shown to Sporting Kansas City midfielder Roger Espinoza on Saturday in Philadelphia, a league source told The Star.

Espinoza will not have to serve a one-game suspension.

During Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Talen Energy Stadium, Espinoza was ejected in the 87th minute after referee Juan Guzman whistled him for a foul. While dribbling the ball out of Sporting Kansas City’s end of the field, Espinoza used his arm to shield Philadelphia midfielder Roland Alberg. After his arm made contact with Alberg’s chest, Alberg flopped backward to generate a call, and Guzman removed the red card from his back pocket.
