Sporting Kansas City’s insurance for striker Dom Dwyer will be obsolete for the remainder of the 2016 season.
Top backup forward Diego Rubio will miss the rest of the year after he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during practice Friday. He is scheduled for surgery next week, and the team expects him back for the 2017 season.
Rubio, 23, was acquired in March, and he has served as depth behind Dwyer on the Sporting KC roster. He has appeared in 20 games across all competitions this season, often entering the game as a late substitute when the club is trailing.
