Sporting Kansas City and FC Dallas were on the opposite sides of the coin than they are in most seasons. Dallas needed to win to ensure a spot in post-season while Sporting KC was already eliminated and did not have much to play for but pride.
Pride and showing that they were unwilling to give up without a fight.
Manager Peter Vermes had his hand forced to make some changes to the lineup with Ilie Sanchez and Roger Espinoza out with red card suspensions. Matt Besler returned to his normal center back spot and homegrown rookie Felipe Hernandez filled in for his fellow midfielder.
