It looks like a trade partner couldn’t be found for Sporting Kansas City defender Marcel de Jong. On Tuesday morning the club and de Jong mutually agreed to part ways.
Marcel de Jong joined Sporting KC after being on trial during the 2015 preseason. His tenure lasted just one year as he was never even in camp this year and apparently hasn’t been in the clubs plans. I had thought he may get traded to a Canadian club in MLS because he wouldn’t take up an international roster spot.
His release does free up an international roster sport for Sporting Kansas City and brings the roster down to just 25 players (Bernardo Anor and Erik Palmer-Brown doesn’t count since they are on loan).
