Kerry Zavagnin has spent the past 17 seasons with Sporting Kansas City. As of Saturday, his place in the franchise’s history will be permanent.
Zavagnin was named the latest member of Sporting Legends, the club’s hall of honor, and he will be recognized with a ceremony during halftime of Saturday’s match against Vancouver at Children’s Mercy Park.
He is the eighth member of the Sporting Legends initiative, which started in 2013. He joins Chris Klein, Peter Vermes, Lamar Hunt, Jimmy Conrad, Bob Gansler, Preki and Tony Meola.
Zavagnin joined the then-Kansas City Wizards in 2000, commencing a nine-year run as a midfielder with the club, which won the MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield in his first season.
