The first-ever class of MLS free agents has been formed, and among that class, there is one player from Sporting Kansas City—midfielder Paulo Nagamura, who is out of contract. While a return to Sporting Kansas City should be in the interests of both player and club, this piece won’t be about Nags.
No, instead, this article is about a few of Nagamura’s fellow free agents (we’ll cover players in the re-entry draft in a later post) who may be in a position to bolster Sporting if Vermes thinks he is just a key piece or two away from returning to MLS Cup contention—and considering that Sporting was one penalty kick going off of both goalposts away from eliminating the team that did just win the MLS Cup, it is not a stretch to think that Sporting could be a real contender again come 2016.
