Now that the Philadelphia Union are out of the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs, the calculus around who could host the final on Dec. 12 has changed.
The path starts with Sporting Kansas City, the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed, since the Union were the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. Sporting have to win two more games, of course, beginning with welcoming Minnesota United FC on Dec. 2 in a conference semifinal, but the trophy could run through Children’s Mercy Park.
Should that situation unfold, Sporting would hope for a repeat of 2013 when they hosted against Real Salt Lake and lifted the Philip F.
