To the extent that the parity-driven MLS has a Real Madrid or Bayern Munich-esque Super Club, it’s the Los Angeles Galaxy. Or, rather, the LAG fancy themselves to be MLS’s Super Club.
It was they who ushered in the Designated Player era of MLS by historically signing David Beckham (and despite an exceptionally rocky first half to Beckam’s tenure here, the second half of his tenure was an unqualified success, and it paved the way for additional DP slots on club rosters).
It is they who continue to snap up big-name DPs like Giovanni Dos Santos and Steven Gerrard—even when the latter in particular is painfully and obviously past his prime.
