Like a flash of déjà vu, FC Kansas City’s Shea Groom once again found herself in a breakaway down the left flank.
Seven minutes earlier, against the Western New York Flash on Saturday night, Groom took a one-on-one opportunity down the left side, but sent her shot glancing off the top of the crossbar. It was the kind of miss that’s plagued FCKC, 4-6-4, all year.
But after Tiffany McCarty threaded a ball through the midfield on to a sprinting Groom down the left side in the 60th minute, the now second-leading goal-scorer in the National Women’s Soccer League wasn’t going to let this one get away from her.
