FC Kansas City played their first away game of the season today against rivals Seattle Reign. It was a rematch of the 2015 NWSL championship game. In similar fashion to the start of the 2015 season, the 2016 season is a slow start for the reigning NWSL champions as they rebuild their team from the loss of key players from last season.
FCKC lacked a striking presence in today’s match, thanks to a red card suspension for forward Shea Groom from last week’s game against the Portland Thorns. Both Seattle and Kansas City play possession soccer, which means that today’s game was a slow but strategic game.
