The Diego Rubio Era in Kansas City won’t be so short-lived after all.
Rubio’s loan with Sporting Kansas City has been extended through the remainder of the 2016 season, his agent told The Star on Wednesday.
The loan agreement with Spanish-club Real Valladolid was set to expire Thursday, but the two sides struck a deal Wednesday to lengthen his stay in Kansas City, according to agent Michael Gorman.
Rubio, 23, was in Sporting KC’s starting lineup Wednesday against the Houston Dynamo in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16. He entered the match with two goals this season — one in MLS play and one in the fourth round of the Open Cup.
