HATTIESBURG - Southern Miss has had precious few chances late in games to pull off a win over the past season-plus.
But it got that opportunity last week against fellow struggling Conference USA member Charlotte. Leading at halftime and as late as the seven-minute mark in the game, the Golden Eagles let victory slip through their fingers, falling 82-76 to the 49ers.
“I told the team after the game, ‘Let’s just compete, guys,’” second-year head coach Doc Sadler said. “’If we just compete with the belief that we’re getting better, I think good things will happen for you.
