HATTIESBURG - Another day came and went without Southern Miss naming a new football coach.
Speculation continued to swirl and conjecture remained a constant among many fans Wednesday, Day 3 of the Golden Eagles' search for Todd Monken's replacement.
Upon Monken's resignation Sunday, Southern Miss athletic director Bill McGillis told reporters he planned to have a coach in place "before next weekend."
Former offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey reportedly interviewed for the Southern Miss vacancy before opting to remain in his current position as Arizona State offensive coordinator. Defensive coordinator David Duggan also interviewed Monday.
Other coaches reportedly connected to the opening at Southern Miss include: Alcorn State head coach Jay Hopson, TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham, Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier and North Carolina defensive coordinator Gene Chizik.
