Southern Miss has had quick-strike ability on offense plenty in recent years.
The Golden Eagles show no signs of discontinuing that trend in Year 1 under coach Jay Hopson.
In the second quarter of Southern Miss’ Conference USA home opener against Rice Saturday, Hopson’s squad showed off its skills again.
At the 8:52 mark, the Golden Eagles answered a Rice touchdown with a 75-yard scoring pass from Nick Mullens to Allenzae Staggers on the next play from scrimmage to take a 10-7 lead. At the time, it was the longest pass play of the season for Southern Miss.
