Football is supposed to be fun.
It doesn’t always work out that way. But Saturday against Rice, Southern Miss’ offense had a blast.
In the Golden Eagles’ 44-28 victory, which moved the team to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Conference USA, Nick Mullens and company had a virtual field day in front of an announced crowd of 28,325 at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
The Black and Gold broke a less than year-old school record for total offense by piling up 702 yards against the Owls. Mullens threw for 591 yards – the third-most in C-USA history – shattering previous top mark by a Southern Miss quarterback by 130 yards.
