Starting pitcher Stevie Powers (4-1) established a new career-high with 12 punchouts and the Golden Eagles struck out just four times in the 9-1 win over Middle Tennessee at Pete Taylor Park. The win is the team’s third in a row and moves Southern Miss to 26-11 overall and 11-4 in Conference USA.
Scott Berry’s club came into the game tied with Middle Tennessee for the most strikeouts (329) in the league.
