The 2003 Southern Miss baseball team finally has company.
Long lauded as one of the most talented Golden Eagle clubs ever assembled, it had been the only squad to reach a pair of lofty summits. The 2003 team won the regular-season Conference USA championship outright and later became the first in program history to host an NCAA regional.
It had been the only team to ever accomplish either feat until this season. This year’s Golden Eagles, which ran away with the league title earlier this month, were rewarded for their efforts with one of the 16 regional host bids.
