Storme Cooper’s first foray at the bottom of a dogpile was quite uncomfortable for a moment.
But the Southern Miss freshman was perfectly fine with it.
“For a second, I couldn’t breathe,” he said. “I thought I was going to pass out, but it was fun.”
Cooper, who also extended his hitting streak to seven games, scored on a wild pitch with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth against Middle Tennessee to give the Golden Eagles a 12-11 walk-off win Sunday. Southern Miss improves to 25-8 overall and 11-1 in Conference USA. It is the team’s third straight series sweep in league play for Scott Berry’s club, and the 21st regular-season C-USA contest it has won it its last 22 games.
