Nick Sandlin was, in a word, masterful.
Making the first start of his collegiate career, the junior right-hander tossed 7 shutout innings to lead Southern Miss to an 11-0 win over Mississippi State in the season opener Friday at Pete Taylor Park.
Sandlin, whose last start came during Greenbrier High’s (Georgia) state championship run in 2015, struck out a career-high 9 Bulldogs.
